Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD)

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease is a condition in which excess fat accumulates in the liver alongside at least one cardiometabolic risk factor, such as obesity or type 2 diabetes. It replaces the older term NAFLD in current nomenclature. MASLD ranges from simple steatosis to inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer.
