Liver elastography
Liver elastography is a non-invasive technique that estimates liver stiffness by measuring how mechanical waves move through tissue. Ultrasound-based systems such as transient elastography and magnetic resonance elastography use different methods to generate and image those waves. Greater stiffness often indicates more fibrosis, although inflammation, congestion and technical factors can affect the measurement.
