Gigaelectronvolt (GeV)
A gigaelectronvolt is a unit of energy equal to one billion electronvolts. Particle physicists use GeV to describe the energy or mass scale of subatomic particles; muons carrying several GeV have enough penetrating power to traverse substantial shielding and dense objects.
