Carbonate Mineral
A mineral containing the carbonate ion, such as calcite or magnesite. Carbonates can form when carbon dioxide-bearing water reacts with rock, and their chemistry and location help researchers reconstruct ancient lakes, groundwater and atmospheric conditions.
